AI gets company information wrong: triage the claim, source and verification status

Quick answer

Save the exact incorrect statement and its test conditions, then confirm the current fact. Route the issue according to whether it involves an owned page, a visible third-party source, identity confusion or an unknown source. Verify page corrections and answer corrections separately. A missing citation does not prevent fact-checking, but it leaves the origin unresolved.

Details

Break the description into checkable statements

Retain the prompt, complete answer, date, interface, language and search setting. Identify the company, brand, product or version each incorrect statement refers to. Have an owner confirm the current wording and valid public source.

Separate factual errors, insufficiently supported statements, subjective opinions and identity confusion. An unfavourable opinion is not automatically a factual error, and missing evidence does not prove a statement false. The outdated-information answer provides background.

Route by source status

Source status Task to prepare
Visible citation to an owned page with a verified error Confirm the fact, prepare a correction and verify publication
Visible citation to a third-party page Check the original wording and applicable date; retain follow-up items
Confusion with another company or product Prepare accurate identity, industry, product and official-site information
No visible source Retain unknown origin; review public facts and comparable answers

The cited page may not support the incorrect sentence. Inspect its actual wording before attributing responsibility. Do not assume your business can edit an external page or a model's internal knowledge.

Retain a correction record

Record the wrong claim, current fact, source and version, owner, affected page, publication status and answer-verification status. Give current public information a stable location and clear scope. Explain identity differences where necessary.

See the fact-page guide. Historical documents may still serve a historical purpose; decide how to update or label them after review rather than deleting them on the strength of one answer.

Close the page task and the answer task on separate evidence

An owned-page correction can be marked complete after actual publication is verified. Retest the original question under comparable conditions to check whether the incorrect statement persists. Without that observation, leave answer verification pending.

A correct answer establishes an observation for that question and setting, not a universal correction across interfaces. Keep unresolved source questions visible in the record.

FAQ

Q: What should we save when AI gives incorrect information about our company?
A: Save the complete prompt and answer, the exact wrong claim, date, interface, language and search setting. Confirm the correct entity, version and current public source with the responsible owner.

Q: How do we handle a wrong AI description when no source is shown?
A: Verify current facts and inspect public information under your control. Prepare clearer identity or scope information where needed, but record the source as unknown. Continue observing comparable answers rather than asserting a root cause.

Q: When can we close an AI misinformation correction task?
A: Close an owned-page correction after publication is verified. Check the answer separately using the original question and comparable settings. Distinguish factual errors from opinions, and retain uncertainty where correction evidence is missing.
